BLACKPOOL 2008 REVIEW
As usual, we did the double on the week-end of Saturday and Sunday, 21st. and 22nd. of June of this year. Sunday arrived with dark malevolent skies. It looked grim, but at least it was dry! On arriving at Blackpool and meeting the rest of our companions, we attempted to park-up. However, a beligerent and hostile Hitler-figure appeared, who started to harangue me with complaints to the effect that makes and models of cars not being in the correct position had caused serious problems. This official, or officious, person ranted that he had been up since 6 o'clock and did not intend to stand arguing the toss with an idiot. I was in complete agreement with him and told him that I felt exactly the same. He stormed off to consult with the rest of the Blackpool Gestapo. Thankfully, that was the last we saw of him. That was our introduction to the 2008 Festival of Transport. It was not a transport of delight. The wind became stronger and stronger. Young children and the elderly had great difficulty in making any progress trying to walk against it. Further up, a huge Ford Galaxy (American) station wagon was being rocked by the wind. It weighed well over two tons! We got back into the car. I looked out, it seemed to be snowing! In fact in was spray from the sea, which was about fifty yards away. It was horrible stuff, brown, sticky, smelly and all enveloping. I tried to take some photos. I could not hold the camera still enough, due to the wind. A group decision said "Home!", so off we went. Later, on the news, it said that the wind at Blackpool had gusted to 65 miles per hour, at one point. Bracing? You can keep it. And Blackpool as well.".
