SOUTHPORT 2008 REVIEW
As
usual, we did the double on the week-end of Saturday and Sunday, 21st. and 22nd.
of June of this year.
Saturday was our day at Victoria Park, Southport. It was a two-day event, but on
the Sunday we had arranged to go to the Festival of Transport
at Blackpool, for a change. The day dawned with rain. This continued on and off.
We erected the gazebo and this gave some respite from the weather, until we
noticed that the rain was coming straight through it! Luckily, I had brought an
enormous fishing umbrella with me and this afforded
some protection. Notwithstanding the weather, we had our customary barbeque,
with lots of hot tea, all good stuff. If you look at the photo of the gazebo
with the tree, you can judge the strength of the wind. By 2.30 p.m. we had had
enough, indeed lots of folk were long gone. It was a great pity,
because it is usually such a good show. As we left and headed towards the A6,
the heavens opened. We were treated to thunder and lightning
with torrential rain. A soggy end to a soggy day.
