Steve Sadler's Cosworth Estate

Dear members,

Just a quick note about my newest

buy. I had been looking for about 12 months for a Cosworth Estate, then

Andrew Tilley gave me a ring about a

car on the `net that he had seen and the `phone number to ring.

The chap was telephoned and he told me it was a Tourmaline Green 24 valve cosworth estate, with a light tan leather interior and only 34,500 miles on the clock!

It came with a full service history, an

RAC check sheet, bill of sale, old MOT sheets and tax discs.

He told me over the `phone how good the car was; so a friend ran

me to Birmingham to take a look.

I gave the car a good going over and took it for a run: it drove like new! We agreed a price and I drove it home with no problems at all.

At the end of August I took the car to the big show up in Scotland and entered it in the concourse competition. It didn't win but it gave me a good idea of what to look for the next time.

The car got plenty of looks and people were asking about it a lot. It was great!

The car did very well at the GMG Show Day winning best MkIII, best interior, best bodywork, Ladies' choice and Car of the Show!

The show was well attended

UNDER CAR LIGHTING? NO PROBLEM!
STEVE SADLERS MK III COSWORTH ESTATE
Granada limelight
by the members and thanks to them for that. Since the show the car has been used a couple of times a week. Last week was the dreaded MOT; but no problem, it sailed through.

Over the winter the underseal is going to be re-done and the front brake disc is to be replaced as there is a little bit of rust on the inside edge.

The price of these repairs worked out at about £100 including VAT but I've got an even better price from a cousin of mine, who works for a parts company. So if you need any parts, ring me and I will see what I can do.

Looking through the info and talking

to a few people, I believe that there

were only 200 of these cars

made and they were built to

special order.

My car was built for the manager of Ford in St. Neots, Huntingdon, and then sold to an old chap who used it once a week for shopping, until he

had to stop driving. The old chap lived in Creek. The car was then sold to the bloke from whom I bought it; he lived in Solihull.

The only change I've done to the car is to put 17 inch alloys on it and given it a good clean up.

Well that's it for now, so I hope to see you all at the meetings and the

shows.

All the best,

Steve.

NOTICE BOARD

My collection of model cars, mostly Granadas, started when I got my second Mk II saloon. I went to a collector's fair and found a silver MkII; as I was having the full-size car painted, I had the model sprayed the same colour. The collection had begun!

At the moment, I have 17 MkI's, three MkII's,

two MkIII's and two MkIV's (Ultima shape).

Seven of the MkI Granadas are Police cars both British and European.

I have a passion for Police cars; so I have 12 of them! Included are: "Starsky and Hutch",

"Kojak" and of course the Police Granada from the "Sweeney".

More from me in the next magazine.

Good luck with the collecting - Magpie.

EDITORS' NOTES:

Dear Member, it has taken a long time, but we have at last managed to produce another Club Magazine! This has been made possible because we now have our own computer, printer, cd-writer and zip drive.

A scanner will soon complete the equipment list and then it will be all systems go! We have changed the format from A4 to A5; this size is much easier to handle and cheaper to produce. The intention is to issue the magazine on a quarterly basis; this is the Autumn issue, obviously followed by the Winter one. We hope that you will enjoy the magazine, please let us know what you think of it, your comments are important; tell us what you would like to see in it, your feedback will help!

The Club still meets at Westhoughton Conservative Club. This is situated at the end of Tithebarn Street, which is off Church Lane,

Westhoughton. If you come from the A6 (in either direction), turn down Wingates Road, this becomes Church Lane, then turn left into Tithebarn Street, which is about 150 yards from the traffic lights. If you approach from Westhoughton town centre, proceed west to the end of Cricketer's Way, then turn right on to Wigan Road, to the traffic lights. At the traffic lights, go straight across on to Church Lane. After about 150 yards turn right into Tithebarn Street, the Club is at the end of the street on the right; park around the back. The entrance is situated there.

Best wishes,

The Editors.

Teresa's Tips
1. Add a pinch of salt and a knob of butter to the pan when poaching eggs to prevent them sticking to the pan.

2. Cracked eggs can still be used for boiling, just add a little vinegar to the water before putting them in the pan.

3. When carpeting a room, save an off-cut and use it to safely test any cleaning products.

4. When taking a shower, place a handful of salt in the bottom of the bath or tray, to help exfoliate and to prevent hard skin on the feet.

5. To stop cauliflower from smelling when cooking,

add a small piece of bread with the crust on it to the pan of boiling water.

6. When making sweet pastry substitute 25gms,

(one ounce), of flour for icing sugar instead. It gives a lovely taste and a light texture.

7. To prevent mould from forming in the bathroom, try adding essential oil of thyme to the cleaning water when washing and rinsing the walls and paintwork.

8. To make a vegetarian Shepherd's Pie, use a chopped and fried onion, fried mushrooms and baked-beans. Put these in a casserole-dish and top with mashed potatoes and grated cheese.

A Grand Day Out!

Here are some images from our last show on Sunday, 2nd. October. We were at Bolton Abbey Train Station, near Skipton. The day started off very cold, but by lunchtime the sun had come out, it then became quite warm. The venue was ideal with all the right ingredients; a train journey, a good display of cars, motor-bikes and a few commercials, then a walk to see the Abbey itself. It was a pity so few members came.

Kevin's Tale . . . .

Hi, well we meet once again, or should I say one day we'll meet?

No really folks, it's getting to that time of year again, drag those grannys

from the garage and get out the dusters. In my case business as usual as

my car is used 24/7, that's everyday to those who don't understand...I try

to get the most out of my cars, use them while I can.

As most of you might know, I used to have a 1951 Chevrolet and a mkII

granny ghia X. I decided to sell the Granada to make way for the Chevy;

well that's what I was supposed to be doing, but it didn't work out that

way, I ended-up selling the Granada and the Chevy.

YOU SEE I advertised the Granada in the Classic Car Weekly. I had a few

calls but no luck; then one day an Irish guy rang (no it's not a joke!).

He asked had I still got the Granada. I told him "yes", then he said "well,

I'll have it". Just like that. We made arrangements to go to meet him at

Holyhead that week-end.

SOOO the day came and I set off with my dad following me in his mkII

he'd just bought about three weeks earlier. On arrival at the meeting place the guy was there waiting as we had planned, without really looking at the car he handed the money over - DEAL DONE!

NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS EXCITING, the guy then went to my dad

and asked him if he'd sell his mkII as well! My dad said "make me an offer". Within five minutes of being there the guy had bought both cars;

now then we were about 100 odd miles away from home, with no way of getting back! So I asked the guy "could we do the deal next week for my dad's car and meet same time next week?". He agreed.......meanwhile in

conversation with the same guy I happened to mention that I had a Chevy for sale as well, to which he replied "Chevy?" I said "yeah, I have a 1951 Chevy Bel Air which I am thinking of selling". "Mmmm he said,

how much?". (Honestly). I told him the price and he said he'd have it!

So we arranged to meet the next week-end. The week-end arrived and we set off back to meet this nice guy once again; me in my Chevy and my dad in the mkII with my brother following in his car.

So now what? Deal done, no car.......well my dad went out and bought a 1995 Ultima Cosworth out of the money he got from the Mk II;

and me? Well that would be telling!

Oh, go on then. I've just bought a mkII Granada Ghia Estate. Another Granada? Yeah well, what the hell; this one was worth it! Two owners from new, both of whom served in the R.A.F. The car had been stored in a Ford Heritage Museum down south for the last four years. It has had a full engine re-build and has been converted to run on unleaded.

The bodywork is like brand new, finished in imperial red metallic and there

is no rot! By the time you see the car it will be slightly modded to my

requirements; nothing too drastic, just the finishing touch. Hope to see you

all soon, somewhere, sometime. Kevin Swift, mkII Granada Ghia Estate.
