SOUTHPORT 2007 REVIEW On site first were Jim & Ian in their facelift Mk2’s, 2.8GL & 2.8i Ghia
X. Steve Sadler brought along his well known Granada Cosworth Estate, closely
followed by Steve & Andrew Tilley, in Andrews stunning F registered 2WD Sierra
Cosworth (more about this car is to follow). Then completing the troupe, we
myself in the Range Rover, or as it’s now otherwise know, the catering truck.
The venue ground is well suited to this show, a large airy gardens situated just
off Rotten Row, which houses the Southport Annual Flower Show, when the ground
is not being pounded by Classics, Americans, Haulage Trucks, Army Vehicles and a
whole plethora of trade and support stands.
Southport is very likeable, there is a well thought design to the layout of the
show, with good access to facilities and local stores should you wish to leave
the show ground. Vehicle turn out was reasonable with a good variation of all
the different categories. The lack of family entertainment was a little
disappointing, and with so much space available, I can not help but wonder why
more entertainment was not available.
Despite the weathers early attempts to dampen the day, the sun soon brightened
up and had us all reaching for ice creams and cold drinks as temperatures
soared. GMG members were treated to free burgers and bacon sarnies thanks to the
committee listening to your requests and finally buying catering equipment.
Star of the show was a blue Triumph Vitesse 2 Litre Saloon, every inch of this
car was so shiney, it made getting decent photographs difficult.
